This is the day that the Lord has made
I have one of those name interpretation things hanging in my room. It says my name at the top and below it are all the characteristics that I should have because of my name. I don't take it seriously, it's just funny to read. One of the things it says about me is that when I'm happy, everyone knows it and when I'm sad, everyone will know it too. That's only partly true about me. When I'm happy, yes, everyone will know it but not when I'm sad. I hide my sorrows pretty well because I don't like passing around unhappiness. However, if you saw me today, you would know I was unhappy. The first thing that the prof who I work for said to me today was, "are you okay?" She could tell that I wasn't happy. All day I was feeling absolutely miserable. I couldn't sleep last night because I kept thinking about how badly I screwed up with the first year's exam, which made me wake up late today. I got to work late, spent half the day stuck in traffic, got yelled at by my mom, I'm dead tired and I still can't get over this guilt with that exam. I think half the blame also goes to the horrible weather. It rained all day. It'll rain all weekend.
When I finally got home, I slammed the car door and shouted "This day sucks!!" But the moment I said that, literally, the moment those words came out of my mouth, a voice struck me. "But this is the day that the Lord has made." Great, more guilt.... how can something that the Lord made, suck? It can't. Everything created by God is perfect and beautiful. It's us sinful creatures who ruin everything and see only the bad. Yes, it rained all day but rain is good. There are countries dying from droughts. Yes, driving in traffic is horrible but I should be thankful that I can drive and have a nice car to drive and that I didn't have to take the bus and walk home in the rain from the bus stop. Thankful that I got home safely because the driving condition was so bad. I was the one who chose to drive to school, if I had taken the bus instead of drive, I wouldn't have spent so long stuck in traffic. Yes, my mom yelled at me but it was because I was really rude to her and said some mean things. Yes, I'm tired but I should have slept earlier. It's obvious that my bad day was the result of my own doings. This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. No, this day doesn't suck, I suck.
But wait, God made me, so I can't suck either, right? but I suck not because God made me but because I'm an idiot... ok, so I can suck.
