Can I be a Rollergirl?

Ok, so a few entries ago, I blogged briefly about RSS feeds and then Tim called me a nerd. Aside from the fact that Tim is ALWAYS really mean to me, he was sort of right in his judgement. I can be pretty nerdy sometimes and perhaps even more so since moving to tech-city. SO! I will now redeem myself and prove I'm still kinda cool (sometimes) by blogging about something cool that I did! =P

On Saturday, some friends and I went to the Rat City Rollergirls Bout Championship! We went to watch, not participate. We've had these tickets for weeks and weeks and I've been looking so forward to it! What is it you ask? It's Seattle's first and only female roller derby league. Basically, it's a competition between two teams that race around a small track on rollerskates (not rollerblades) trying to get the most points. There are only 5 players from each team on at a time, 10 girls in total on the track. Each team consists of a Jammer, a Pivot and 3 Blockers. Only the Jammer can score points for the team. The rest of the team's job is to prevent or block the Jammer on the opposing team from passing them and scoring points. So pretty much, there's A LOT of bumping and pushing and falling and flying off the track. These girls are amazing on rollerskates, they are fast and they are tough. They just get right back up on their skates when they get sent flying and sliding off the track! One girl busted her lip but she kept right on going! These girls are also BIG! I don't mean fat. I mean they're big! Big like they can take Tim out, no questions asked!

The guys wanted to sit in the "crash zone" hoping some of these girls will come flying off the track and onto their laps =P But lucky for them (or me), that never happened! A number of close calls but no injuries or bruises! It was a really crazy, intense, exciting, edge-of-your-seat, screaming and jumping type of championship! It just might be even more exciting than watching hockey!

If I was taller and bigger and able to rollerskate, I'd totally want to be a rollergirl! I wouldn't want to be a Jammer though cuz they're the ones who get knocked a lot. I don't think I'm tough enough to be a Blocker and knock people out so most likely, I'd want to be a Pivot. They're the ones who skate in the front and set the pace for the pack. They're also the last line of defense in preventing a Jammer on the opposing team from passing and scoring points.

Nonetheless, Kliu and I are going to practice being rollergirls by rollerblading around Greenlake and knocking people out or knocking each other out! =P Badboy said he's going to practice being a girl first. LOL.
