Sisters in Christ

A good friend told me today that she spent an incredible weekend in Waterloo last week and what made it so awesome was the time she spent with her sisters in Christ there. The fellowship, the sharing, the encouragement between women was something she had really miss since coming back to Richmond Hill. I couldn't help but smile and share her sentiment. But I also had a hint of jealousy. For my friend, she can easily drive 1 hour to see her sisters in Waterloo, as for me, I must fly 4 hours to see my sisters in Calgary.

I've realized that having that support and fellowship between women is what my fellowship has always lacked, what my life has always lacked. I'm a girl who has more guy friends than girls and who often prefer to hang out with guys rather than girls (although, I'm slowly working on changing this) This, perhaps is an attribute of my reticent nature since men aren't the eager type to share thoughts and feelings and I was perfectly comfortable with that. I was, but not anymore.

Since returning from Calgary, I've realized that it's time I break out of my hard, stubborn shell. There is too much going on in my life to hold it all in and I've gained the valuable experience of how we as sisters in Christ can learn from each other and lift each other up in prayer. Last night was my attempt to begin a gathering of the women in my fellowship. Many things threatened the cancellation of this get-together, including my furnace breaking down, not being able to prepare dinner since I spent all day installing the stupid cable internet and getting the furnace fixed, as well as many girls not being able to make it. It was quite short notice but something stirred in my heart to have it this weekend and I pushed forward anyways.

I'm glad everything worked out. The furnace was fixed, my house was warm, I found a yummy Delicio pizza in my freezer and some chicken wings and good old chinese tea always hits the spot. We had an incredible night of sharing, with one of the woman sharing her very very recent loss of job and we ended the night in prayer for her and each other. She came up to me after service today, incredibly much happier and grateful for the get-together and prayers.

It was definitely a work of God and I know this is just the beginning of something amazing between my sisters in Christ right here at home.

I must thank my sisters out west for the inspiration though! hehe.
